Beginner Workshop - Paint Basics Schedule Now Available

Lois Butler - Tuesday, January 19, 2016

Comfortable indoor spaces become more of a focus during the wintery months and now that our seasonal decor has been tucked back into its box, many homes need a shot of colour and an extra dash of cosy.  It might be time for a new look!

Soft or bold, rustic or refined, the choice is yours.

If you have a space that is looking a bit tired, now is the perfect opportunity for you to carve out a little personal, creative time.  Enter DIY season where we Canadians hunker down to declutter, DIY, and redecorate!  Our new line of furniture paint makes this type of "up styling" very easy.  It is also an economical and eco-friendly approach.

Enroll now in our Beginner Workshop - Paint Basics and you will learn how to create the painted finishes that are so popular and inviting.

Our introductory class will prepare you for furniture "recycling" by showing you how to apply and distress a finish.  You will go home with new found confidence and skills.  This workshop is a perfect fit for the beginner who has never tried painting before as well as those with some prior experience who want to refine their skills.  Read more here.

New Year - New Start

Lois Butler - Tuesday, January 05, 2016

Have you had enough of winter yet?  I know I have.

During winter many of us tend to spend more time indoors browsing magazines and internet sites like Pinterest, resulting in a critical eye when it comes to our own home.  We feel the urge to refresh, redecorate, or declutter our living space.  As you are working towards simplifying and reordering your space, maybe you will find a few furniture pieces that you would like to sell.

From the start, our Consignment Service, has been a very successful venture. We have many satisfied buyers and sellers as quality pieces move from one home to another.  Right now we are particularly interested in smaller tables and storage pieces but we are still open to dining room sets and larger cabinets. These pieces are often sold just as they come into the store, but they are great candidates for "upstyling" and "repurposing"too.

Upstyling: Paint Techniques           Repurposing: Kitchen to Entry Way

Just send pictures of your items to consignment@loisbutler.com.  Please don't automatically decide that "they won't want this".  Just send your pictures and we will let you know what we are able to take.

This past year has been an interesting journey for us as we have expanded the scope of our business to include furniture consignment, custom woodwork, furniture transformations through painting techniques, and now painting classes (class schedule soon to be published).  All of these additions have been the result of our improved and enlarged location at 294 Lakeshore.  So feel free to come and browse anytime as stock rotates quickly and the some items hardly make it to the showroom before a very speedy exit transpires.

I'll end with a sample gallery of consignment, created, and transformed furniture that has passed through our doors.

Have a Happy and Healthy New Year and good luck with your decorating plans!

Room for a Bench

Lois Butler - Monday, June 08, 2015

Sometimes you just need to find the perfect piece for that perfect spot.

This bench has lovely lines and a light feel that makes it the perfect choice where space is at a premium.  I see in a bedroom as place to store decorative pillows or blankets that need an overnight spot to land.  In a foyer, decked out with matching pillows (they are available), and a few baskets under the seat to catch backpacks, purses, hats or dog walking supplies that are best housed right as you exit the house.

Mirror Mirror and So Much More

Lois Butler - Saturday, May 30, 2015

Since we have accepting consignments from our clients, we have been so fortunate to connect with people who have unique and diverse items.  When evaluating pieces for consignment, I look for the potential of the piece, as well as the condition.  A little paint and elbow grease can go a long way to produce items that will give your home that special touch.  So don't hesitate to send us photos of possible consignment offerings, even if a little TLC is required.
We really are thrilled with our new listings this week, so take a look at our sublime offerings and be prepared to take home something exquisite.

This selection is a mix of Furniture Consignment Furniture Transformation and Custom Furniture products.

Transformation Complete

Lois Butler - Thursday, April 09, 2015

The hardware has been replaced with solid pewter knobs on the middle three drawers and classic rubbed black pulls on the remaining six drawers creating a balanced, but unique effect.

The dresser is 60" long, 18.5" deep, and 31" high allowing for all sorts of placements, staging and downright usefulness.  It could of course be used as a bedroom dresser and simply make the room!  Picture is in a foyer or hallway providing a place for hats, scarves, gloves etc.  Another great spot would be in a media setting with the TV placed on the wall above it, or even right on it due to its generous length.  In a family room it would also be an ideal place to tuck away board games and craft materials.

Check back soon for more stellar furniture transformations.  Maybe you have the perfect piece for this type of upscaling?  Get in touch and let us help you create that unique piece you have always wanted.
