New Life

Lois Butler - Tuesday, October 20, 2015

The leaves are changing and fall is well underway.  Does that mark the beginning of new life? Traditionally, I've always seen spring as a time for rebirth, but autumn initiates its own set of changes.

We have been enjoying the greatest autumn, but this past weekend certainly was a wake-up call. Change is just around the corner!  The snow, sleet and hail on Saturday screamed that winter is closing in.  This also means we start cocooning, going back to our groups or clubs, and looking for new projects.

If painting and refurbishing furniture sounds like a project that you would enjoy, we have received some great pieces that are well priced.  All of them are up for a "rebirth".

Colour is one of the newest trends in decor and painted furniture is one of the best ways to achieve the look.  With the new paints available on the market, the process of applying colour could never be easier.  You might not be willing to pay big money for a hot pink piece of furniture, but if you focus on the renewal and buying of good used furniture, a lick of paint can give them new life.

Look for well-made pieces with good lines and because trends come and go, you may not wish to paint the furniture you consider your investment pieces.

If you need some assistance in the painting department, we would be happy to transform your piece for you.  Here are a few of our completed paint transformations.

Fall Preview

Lois Butler - Sunday, August 23, 2015

When the weather gets a little crisper and it's time for back to school, it's a sure sign of ... dare I say it - FALL!  Inside our decor begins to switch over too.  Subtle changes occur but our love of colour does not need to depart with the seasonal switch.

Enjoy the soft velvet touch of this rich purple pillow and throw.  It's like getting out your favourite cosy sweater to wrap up in.

Always a regal and inviting influence on a room, it can add that missing element to complete your space.  I'm always surprised and delighted to see how deep plum tones in other accessories are brought to life with a touch of purple.

Another approach is too go graphic.  Replace a lighter or more floral design with this black and grey shot of luxury.

Play on the harvest of fall colours with this combo.

The print, which is great on its own, gets a fresher look when combined with a citrus linen pillow.  Seasonally, you might think of the green pillow as more suited to spring or summer, but the combo gives a fresh look to neutral backgrounds like the beige and brown tones - colours many people are very comfortable with.

Give your home a little love this fall with a new look.  See quick shots of pillows from around the store below and even more pillows here.

Exceptional Consignment - Kitchen and Dining Deals

Lois Butler - Friday, August 14, 2015

We continue to be amazed at the exceptional quality of consignment goods that have come into the store.  Advantages such as not having to deal with people bargaining with you at a garage sale or online, and the wonderful surroundings of our store are two of the top reasons clients love this method of resale.  Not to mention that it clears the way for a new look for your own space. We take care of all the details!

Today's focus is on the kitchen.  First up is this dining set consisting of a table, 6 chairs and a hutch.  It fits right into relaxed elements of farmhouse style and it really has a timeless appeal.

Kitchen islands are always the rage and this one is a top quality item.  Solid wood, drawers on both sides, and extra storage below just add to the extra workspace it provides.  Pair it up with the two leather top swivel stools and you have an instant upgrade with very little effort.

Maybe a pair of Windsor chairs is what the decor doctor ordered.  Use at a table or tuck them into a space that says come and relax.  Add a few pillows, a throw and your favourite beverage.

We hope to see you soon as we have a myriad of side tables, coffee tables, end tables, cabinets, pillows and other functional decor items.  If nothing is the right size or just the right look, we also have our Made to Measure service.

Emotionally Overwhelming

Lois Butler - Friday, July 24, 2015

Last Saturday morning on the way to the store, we stopped at an estate sale.  The owners of the home were there, aided by their real estate agent.  You could see it was an emotional and overwhelming experience for the couple.  They were being bombarded with questions about prices and with offers.  There was so much happening at once that the couple were have difficulty thinking on the spot as well as dealing with a bargaining situation.

The average person attending an estate sale is not considering the emotions of the seller.  They are there looking for a bargain.  It would have been better if the couple were not in attendance as it is hard to detach yourself from everything that made your house a home for many, many years.

I feel that once you have made the decision to give up your home and move to a new residence or a condo, you should start assessing your belongings.  What items will you be taking to your new home and what items will you sell or give to family?  It would be much easier to know which items members of the family would like and which ones you will be selling.

When you start planning well in advance of the sale of your home, you also start to move on emotionally.  Many people start to get excited about their new space.  In their mind, they move on much sooner than the date of the physical move, and the idea of change becomes positive and less emotionally stressful.

Let us help you with the process by selling your items on consignment.  It's a very simple process.

  • Just send us pictures of the items you wish to sell.
  • If we feel we can sell your consignment piece, we will agree on a selling price.
  • You can deliver your items to us, or for a fee, have them picked up.
  • We will display them nicely in our store at no cost to you.
  • When it sells, you get a cheque for half of the sale price.

The advantage is that you don't have to deal with people coming to your home and then trying to bargain you down on your price.  Also, by starting early to get rid of the furniture you can't take with you, it means you won't end up giving it away at the last moment.

Our selection of consignment pieces has expanded as word has spread. Clients know that they will receive fair treatment as a seller and excellent value as a buyer.

English Pine Table

Here is an English pine table displayed with other consignment and new merchandise.  Actually, this photo features consignment items are from 3 different clients. The Windsor chairs at the ends of the table are from one, the smaller antique chairs are from another and the English pine harvest table is from a third client.  And yes, the table does really come from England!

Love the the look.
